Empowering Education: Solar Structures Unveils Solar-Powered Outdoor Classroom

We are thrilled to share a groundbreaking achievement at Solar Structures – the successful design and installation of a cutting-edge outdoor classroom at a school in Thurles, Co. Tipperary, Rep. of Ireland.

Harnessing the Power of the Sun

Featuring 36 solar PV panels, this project exemplifies our commitment to sustainable energy solutions. The solar panels not only generate clean electricity for the school but also serve a dual purpose by creating an eco-friendly learning environment.

A Space for Learning, Playing, and Growing

This innovative outdoor classroom provides school children with a unique space to play, explore, and learn under the open sky. We believe in fostering a connection between education and nature, and this project exemplifies that vision.

Building a Sustainable Future Together

By combining clean energy generation with an engaging learning space, Solar Structures is contributing to a greener, brighter future. Our installation team worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life, and we are proud to see the positive impact on both the environment and the students.

Explore the possibilities of sustainable design with Solar Structures. Together, let’s build spaces that not only generate power but also empower the minds of the future.

WasteWater Treatment Plants get the solar treatment

We are not sure if this is a world first, but possibly a European first.  We have designed a 26 panel, 10KW inverter solar system that sits over a WasteWater Treatment Tank in Co. Galway.

The client wanted to:

  • Lower the on-going cost of electricity at a WasteWater Treatment Plant in Co. Galway
  • Take active steps to comply with their Carbon reduction obligations

The structure had to match the local site requirements and fit into a pre-existing treatment tank that was being upgraded.

S O L U T I O N

We designed a made to measure canopy structure that would hold 26 bi-facial panels – 15KWP. The design allows the array to sit above a wastewater treatment tank. The advantages of this solution were that minimal groundworks were required. The site in question has very little additional space to site any other solar PV deployment, therefore upgrading the space at the tank was the most efficient solution.  Our solution also allows for additional panels to be added in the future as required.

1. Upgraded under-used space. We were able to give the client a solution that would fit into the current wastewater treatment tank, without the need to use valuable real estate for the solar array.

2. Optimal orientation of Solar array

Another benefit of our solution is that the client now has a solar array oriented due South, maximising solar gain.

3. Reduction in running costs

The electricity usage of the site lent itself perfectly to a Solar PV deployment. Overall our system will generate significant savings each year on electricity costs.

We would like to thank the end client, Údarás na Gaeltachta, for their vision along with all our other project partners – Máirtín Ó Flatharta Teo (Contractors), Ryan Hanley, EPS, Rexel, and Solartricity

Possibly Ireland’s most eco-friendly solicitors?

When Caolán and the team at Doyle & Company solicitors in Blanchardstown decided to lower their carbon emissions they understood that Solar PV would be an ideal solution for them.  The offices use a fair amount of electricity during the day, but are relatively low users at night.  This meant that Solar PV would appear to be an ideal solution for them.  However, the roof space on their office was limited and could only fit very few panels.

From discussing their situation with the team at Ecoplex, they decided to call Solar Structures.  Together we conducted a site survey and it became apparent that the South facing area behind the office could be upgraded through a solar veranda.  The veranda would create an additional covered area for the team to sit out under and would keep them relatively dry as they went out to their cars.  Most of all, the solar PV brise-soleil awning would reduce the offices from overheating in Summer and would give them an optimum solar pv deployment.

We at Solar Structures, the experts in upgrading outdoor spaces via Solar PV, are very grateful to both the team at Doyle & Company and to Conor Deasy and the team at Ecoplex energy for working with us on the special project.

A patio awning re-imagined

At Solar Structures, our goal has always been to create beautiful outdoor spaces while optimising the return on a client’s Solar PV investment.

In a recent project for a homeowner in Co. Limerick we were able to create a covered outdoor patio area that can be used as a family space no matter the weather.  Our specially selected panels allow for a dappling effect underneath.

The total output from this array is just over 6KWp.  In addition, the ‘brise-soleil’ panel array provides additional shading during the Summer months to prevent the large South facing open-plan room from overheating.

All our solutions are made to measure for each site and all our structures are designed and fabricated by our team in Co. Galway.  We partnered with JFW renewables on this special project and we would like to thank the homeowners for their vision and their trust in us.

If you have an outdoor space that might need upgrading, or just an interest in looking at an innovative Solar PV deployment, get in touch.

Creating light filled spaces while harnessing the potential of Solar PV

A new covered area to enjoy family meals together and clean green solar power to keep the lights on and the EV running, these were the requirements of another of our recent clients.  In this case we designed a canopy with special light-well sections along with the use of special bi-facial panels.

The overall effect is to create a space that is now multi-use, allowing the family to maximise the enjoyment of the outdoor space at their home.

With 14 panels overall, 6 on their new Solar Structure, the homeowners have 5.8KWp of clean electricity.

We would like to thank the client for their vision on this project and for their support.

Revamping outdoor spaces via Solar PV

Like an episode from one of those Channel 4 property revamp programs from the 2000’s, we are very happy to unveil our own transformation project.  The client had a pretty messy enclosed area to the side of their home and wanted something ‘special’.  Like all good property transformation shows the key is in the big reveal!

We helped transform this space into a dry, light-filled, green-energy generating machine!

With 6 bifacial panels letting light through and a bespoke design with polycarbonate sections along with timber cladding, the new space matches the client’s need for an upgraded outdoor space.  Now with no more rain falling on the space and reaping the benefits, it could be said that the space is now truly transformed!

A quick thank you to the client for their vision and their trust.
